The Quebec City Police Department announced Tuesday it has suspended five police officers following the violent arrest of Black teenagers earlier on Saturday.
In a statement released earlier today, the Quebec City Police (SPVQ), said the five officers were suspended amid ongoing investigation into the events that took place in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The Quebec City Police also added that an internal investigation has been initiated to probe the intervention in a licensed establishment in Sainte-Foy sector on the evening of November 26, 2021.
The department also added that the officers have been suspended with pay.
A video footage of the violent arrest went viral on social media, purportedly showing the officers punching a young Black man.
Two other videos were also shared online, purportedly showing the officers violently dealing with a young black woman, including dragging her on the snow covered ground.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning in Grande-Allée Street, outside the Dagobert nightclub.
