The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of Pakistani military, in a statement said at least 5 militants were also killed during the clash.
The statement further added that the clash broke out after the Pakistani soldiers launched an intelligence-based operation in Asman Manza area of South Waziristan.
The Pakistani Taliban, Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), confirmed the clash and said at least 9 Pakistani soldiers were killed and several others were wounded during the exchange of fire.
This comes as at least four Pakistani soldiers were killed and 18 others were wounded in a suicide attack in Quetta city earlier this month.
Two Pakistani soldiers were killed in an improvised explosive device (IED) attack in North Waziristan last week.
