The Alberta Health on Monday confirmed that the health authorities have identified eight additional cases of the Omicron variant of COVID-19.
Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Deena Hinshaw, said “Since Dec. 3 we have confirmed 8 new cases of the variant, bringing our total to 12.”
Dr. Hinshaw further added that eleven cases in Alberta have been identified in returning travelers and is one a house contact.
She also added that these individuals are isolating, and all appropriate public health follow-up is underway.
To date, only mild symptoms have been reported and these individuals are recovering at home, Dr. Hinshaw said, adding that some household members of these cases have tested positive for COVID but have not yet been confirmed as Omicron.
She also added that one household contact recently attended an elementary school in North Zone and one attended a high school. Out of an abundance of caution, the schools have been notified.
