Alberta reports 1,660 new COVID-19 cases and 17 more deaths over a 24-hour period


The Alberta Health on Thursday reported 1,660 new cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and 17 more deaths over a 24-hour period.

Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Deena Hinshaw, said the Alberta Health completed 18,000 tests in the past 24 hours and identified 1,660 new cases.

Hinshaw further added that 1,058 people are in hospital due to COVID-19, including 226 people who are being treated in Intensive Care Units.

According to Dr. Hinshaw, 100 percent of the new ICU admissions were unvaccinated individuals.

Dr. Hinshaw also added that 17 new deaths were also reported to Alberta Health in the last 24 hours.
