Alberta reports 240 new cases, five additional deaths due to COVID-19 on Tuesday

The Alberta Health on Tuesday reported 240 new cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and five additional deaths due to the virus over a 24-hour period.

Alberta’s top doctor, Dr. Deena Hinshaw, said the health authorities completed around 5,500 tests in the last 24 hours, identifying 240 news.

Dr. Hinshaw further added “Our positivity rate was about 4.3%. There have been no new cases of Omicron variant identified in the past 24 hours, the total remains at 11.”

She also added that 373 people are currently being treated for COVID-19 in hospital, including 76 in the ICU.

“Sadly, I must announce that 5 new deaths have been reported to Alberta Health in the last 24 hours,” Dr. Hinshaw added.

Meanwhile, Dr. Hinshaw, said there are currently active alerts or outbreaks in 129 schools. 8 of these schools have had 10 or more cases infectious in the school in the last 14 days.

The Alberta Health on Monday reported 788 new cases of COVID-19 and five additional deaths over a 3-day period.
