Alberta reports 30 additional deaths due to COVID-19 in past 24 hours

Alberta is reporting 30 additional deaths and 960 cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) over a 24-hour period.

The Chief Medical Officer of Health of Alberta, Dr. Deena Hinshaw, said the Alberta Health completed 12,700 tests in the last 24 hours and identified 916 new positive cases of COVID-19.

Dr. Hinshaw further added that 1,016 are hospitalized due COVID-19, including 231 people who are being treated in Intensive Care Unit.

Meanwhile, Dr. Hinshaw said the Alberta Health will not report COVID deaths in anyone under 18 years of age under 18 years of age until a review has been completed.

She apologized to the family of the 14-year-old victim of COVID about whom she spoke on Tuesday, saying “The pain of losing a child is terrible enough without having that loss compounded by a public debate the circumstances.”

The Alberta Health on Wednesday reported 652 new cases of COVID-19 and 38 additional deaths over a period of 24 hours.
