Alberta reports 34 deaths due to COVID-19 in the past 24 hours


The Alberta Health on Wednesday reported 34 additional deaths due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) over a 24-hour period.

Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Deena Hinshaw, said 34 new deaths were reported to Alberta Health in the 24 hours. “Each one is yet another tragic reminder of the very real & devastating power of COVID.”

Dr. Hinshaw further added that the Alberta Health identified 1,682 new cases of COVID-19 by completing 15,000 tests in the past 24 hours.

Furthermore, Dr. Hinshaw said 1,084 people are in due to COVID-19, including 268 people who are being treated in Intensive Care Units.

She also added that 74.6% of the non-ICU patients are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated and 90.6% of the patients in ICU are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated.

Emphasizing that Alberta’s health system is under extreme pressure, Dr. Hinshaw said getting vaccinated and following all public health measures that are in place will help to ease that strain.
