The Alberta Health reported 366 new cases of the novel coronavirus (COVI-19) on Thursday, including one additional case of the Omicron variant.
Dr. Deena Hinshaw, the Chief Medical Officer of Health of Alberta, said the health authorities completed around 9,500 tests in the last 24 hours and identified 366 new cases.
According to Dr. Hinshaw, the additional Omicron variant of COVID-19 was identified in an individual who recently returned from Nigeria.
Furthermore, Dr. Hinshaw, said 419 people are hospitalized due to COVID-19 in Alberta, including 76 people who are being treated in Intensive Care Unit for COVID-19.
She also added that 68.2 per cent of 343 non-ICU patients and 82.8 per cent of ICU patients are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated.
Two additioanl deaths related to COVID-19 were also reported to Alberta Health in the last 24 hours, Dr. Hinshaw said.
The Alberta Health on Wednesday reported 424 COVID-19 cases and seven additional deaths due to the virus over a 24-hour period.
