Antigonish RCMP charge woman with attempted murder

The Antigonish RCMP has charged a woman with attempted murder after a stabbing on College St. in Antigonish.

“On January 3 at approximately 11:45 p.m., police were called to an assault at an establishment on College St. in Antigonish. The assault was alleged to have occurred between two groups of people,” the Antigonish RCMP said in a statement.

Upon arrival, police located a 21-year-old man suffering from a stab wound to his abdomen. The man was taken to hospital by ambulance.

Two people were arrested at the scene, a 27-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman, the Antigonish RCMP said, adding that both were held in custody overnight. No one else was injured.

Through the investigation, police determined there was no evidence to support charges against the 27-year-old man and he was released from custody.

However, the Antigonish RCMP, said the 30-year-old woman was remanded into custody to appear in Antigonish Provincial Court on January 5.

The Antigonish RCMP also added that Cassandra Jane Desmond, 30, of Antigonish, has been charged with Attempted Murder.

She appeared via teleconference in Antigonish Provincial Court and was released on conditions by the court. Desmond will return to Antigonish Provincial Court on January 26, 2022 at 9:30 a.m.
