“U.S. military forces conducted a self-defense unmanned over-the-horizon airstrike today on a vehicle in Kabul, eliminating an imminent ISIS-K threat to Hamad Karzai International airport,” Capt. Bill Urban, USN, U.S. Central Command Spokesman said.

Capt. Urban further added “We are confident we successfully hit the target. Significant secondary explosions from the vehicle indicated the presence of a substantial amount of explosive material.”

“We are assessing the possibilities of civilian casualties, though we have no indications at this time,” he said, adding that “We remain vigilant for potential future threats.”

This comes as a coordinated suicide attack killed over 100 Afghans and 13 U.S. service members in Kabul on Thursday.

President Joe Biden had earlier warned of an imminent attack on Kabul airport within the next 24 to 36 hours.
