B.C. reports 649 COVID-19 cases and 13 deaths in the past 24 hours


B.C. is reporting 649 new cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and 13 additional deaths due to the virus in the past 24 hours.

The health authorities identified 281 of the new cases in Fraser Health, 61 in Vancouver Coastal Health, 88 in Interior Health, 130 in Northern Health, and 89 in Island Health.

“In the last 24 hours, 13 new deaths have been reported, for an overall total of 2,109,” the B.C. government said in a statement.

The statement further added that 365 individuals are currently in hospital due to COVID-19 and 143 are in intensive care.

The B.C. government also added as of Friday, Oct. 22, 2021, 89.4% (4,145,426) of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 83.9% (3,891,058) have received their second dose.

In addition, 89.9% (3,887,545) of all eligible adults in B.C. have received their first dose and 84.6% (3,659,100) have received their second dose.
