B.C. reports 743 COVID-19 cases and 5 additional deaths over a 24-hour period


B.C. is reporting 743 new cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and 5 additional deaths over a 24-hour period.

There are currently 5,969 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, and 184,121 people who tested positive have recovered, the B.C. Government said in a statement.

360 individuals are being treated in the hospital for COVID-19 and 137 are in Intensive Care.

Of the 743 new cases, 265 were identified in Fraser Health, 69 new cases were identified in Vancouver Coastal Health, 143 in Interior Health, 196 in Northern Health, and 70 in Island Health.

Three of the additional deaths were reported in Fraser Health, one in Interior Health, and one in Northern Health.

As of Friday, Oct. 8, 2021, 88.6% (4,107,666) of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 82.2% (3,811,076) received their second dose, the B.C. Government said.
