Press Secretary Jen Psaki said “National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan and Chief of Staff Ron Klain have briefed the President on the rocket attack at Hamid Karzai International Airport.”

Psaki further added that the President was informed that operations continue uninterrupted at HKIA, and has reconfirmed his order that commanders redouble their efforts to prioritize doing whatever is necessary to protect our forces on the ground.

The ISIS terrorist group claimed responsibility for the attack, claiming that the group targeted the airport with six Katyusha rockets.

Meanwhile, a U.S. official has told Reuters that the U.S. anti-missile defences intercepted as many as five rockets fired at Kabul’s airport early on Monday.
