The U.S. President Joe Biden congratulated Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for his victory in federal elections, the White House said in a statement on Tuesday.
“President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. spoke today with Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada to congratulate him on the Liberal Party’s victory in the September 20 federal elections,” according to a statement released by White House.
The statement further added that the two leaders underscored the strong and deep friendship between the United States and Canada, and discussed their shared commitment to strengthening the resilience and competitiveness of the U.S. and Canadian economies and coordinating on COVID-19 pandemic response.
“The President expressed to Prime Minister Trudeau his desire to continue working closely and deepening collaboration with Canada – one of our nation’s top partners,” the statement added.
The Liberal Party will form another minority government after winning Monday’s federal election.
The Liberals secured lead in 158 Electoral Districts in Monday’s election while the Conservative Party secured lead in 119 Electoral Districts, according to Elections Canada.
Meanwhile, the Bloc Québécois, secured lead in 34 Electoral Districts, NDP-New Democratic Party in 25, and the Green Party secured lead in 2 Electoral Districts.
