Canadian Leylah Annie Fernandez cruises into French Open Second Round


Canadian tennis player Leylah Annie Fernandez cruised into the second round of French by winning the first round of the women’s singles draw.

Fernandez,18, of Laval, Que., defeated Anastasia Potapova of Russia during the first round of the women’s single draw on Sunday.

“As the lone Canadian in action on day one, the 18-year-old from Montreal had the spotlight to herself and put on a show, winning her first-round match convincingly over Anastasia Potapova 6-2, 6-1 in only 59 minutes,” the Tennis Canada said in a report.

Fernandez awaits the winner between Oceane Dodin and 23rd seed Madison Keys in the second round.
