COVID-19: Alberta reports 1,051 new cases and 16 additional deaths

The Alberta Health Services says it identified 1,051 new cases of COVID-19 and 16 additional deaths in the last 24 hours.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw, the Chief Medical Officer of Alberta, said the Alberta Health identified the new cases after completing around 14,000 tests.

Furthermore, Dr. Hinshaw, said 1,000 people are in hospital due to COVID-19, including 229 people who are being treated in Intensive Care Unit.

According to Dr. Hinshaw, 73.3% of 771 non-ICU COVID patients and 89.5% of 229 ICU patients are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated.

“Sadly, 16 new deaths related to COVID-19 were also reported to Alberta Health in the last 24 hours. Of these, 75% were unvaccinated. I extend my sincere condolences to all who are grieving today,” Dr. Hinshaw said.

The Alberta Health on Thursday reported 916 new cases of COVID-19 and 30 additional deaths over a 24-hour period.
