COVID-19: Alberta reports 2,181 new cases, 30 deaths over a 3-day period


The Alberta Health is reporting 2,181 new cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and 30 additional deaths over a 3-day period.

Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Deena Hinshaw, said the Alberta Health identified 607 new cases by completing 7,200 tests in the last 24 hours.

The Alberta Health identified 791 cases out of 11,400 tests on October 16, and 783 cases out of 11,600 tests on October 15.

Dr. Hinshaw further added that 981 people are in hospital due to COVID-19. “Of the 756 non-ICU, 72.5% are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated. Of the 225 in ICU, 90.6% are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated.”

She also added that 30 new deaths due to COVID-19 were reported to Alberta Health Services in the last 72 hours.

The Alberta Health on Friday reported 1,051 new cases of COVDI-19 and 16 additional deaths over a 24-hour period.
