The Alberta Health on Tuesday reported 663 new cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the last 24 hours.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, said 1,094 people are being treated for COVID-19 in the hospital, including 252 in Intensive Care Unit.

According to Dr. Hinshaw, 26 additional deaths were also reported to Alberta Health Services in the last 24 hours.

Furthermore, Dr. Hinshaw, said the recent surge in COVID-19 cases has impacted all ages as the Alberta Health has seen the highest rates recently in school-aged Albertans.

She also added that those between 5-19 years old make up about 1/4 of the active cases. However, Dr. Hinshaw added there is a very low likelihood of children becoming severely ill.
