The Health Canada is reviewing a submission by Pfizer and BionTech for the approval of COVID-19 vaccine booster doses.
“Health Canada has received a submission from Pfizer-BioNTech for the approval of a booster dose of the Comirnaty Covid Vaccine. Health Canada is conducting a thorough, independent and evidence-based review of the submission,” the Health Canada said in a statement.
The statement further added booster doses were recently recommended by National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) for long-term care residents and seniors in other congregate living settings.
An additional dose for people who are moderately to severely immunocompromised has also been recommended, the Health Canada said.
The Health Canada also added that NACI will continue to monitor the evolving evidence regarding booster doses for both key populations and the general public and will update guidance as needed.
