The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group claimed a deadly attack on a mosque in southern Afghanistan, a week after claiming a similar attack on a Shi’ite mosque in northern part of the country.

The latest attack, in southern Kandahar city, left over 40 people dead, mostly Shi’ite prayers.

According to a statement released by terror group online, the attack on Kandahar city mosque was carried out by two suicide bombers of the group, who detonated their explosives among the prayer participants.

The statement further added that the suicide bombers initially opened fire on the security guards of the mosque to make their way inside the prayer area.

A suicide bomber detonated his explosives inside a Shi’ite mosque in Kunduz city last Friday, leaving at least 50 people dead and over 150 others wounded.
