Man, 26, faces several charges as police identify the 2 victims of SW Ontario fatal collision


A 26-year-old man from Malahide Township is facing multiple charges following a fatal two vehicle collision in Southwestern Ontario which left two dead.

Sergeant Ed Sanchuk of Ontario OPP on Sunday identified the two victims as Peter Harder, 29, of Aylmer and Neil Banman, 26, of Chatham-Kent.

According to Sgt. Sanchuk, a 26-year-old Malahide man, has been arrested and is facing multiple charges, including two counts of operation while impaired causing death, two counts of operation over 80 causing death, two counts of dangerous operation causing death, and two counts of failure to stop at accident result death.

He also added that the man is in custody awaiting an appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in St. Thomas at a later date.

The crash happened just before 9:00 pm at Richmond Drive with one of the two trucks entering a ditch and rolling over several times.

According to OPP officials, the driver of the truck and one of its two passengers ejected following the incident, with one of person declared dead at the scene.

The officials further added that the second person died in the hospital, while the third person was treated for serious but non life threatening injuries.
