An explosion ripped through a mosque in North of Afghanistan leaving nearly 50 people dead and 150 others wounded.
A Taliban official in the North said the explosion targeted a Shi’ite mosque in Kunduz city on Friday afternoon.
Matiullah Rohani, the provincial chief of information and culture of Taliban in Kunduz, issued a statement confirming the casualties toll.
According to Rohani, a suicide bomber detonated his explosives inside the mosque.
The Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid confirmed that several people were killed or wounded but did not disclose an exact figure.
No individual or group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack but the offshoot of ISIS terrorist group in Afghanistan has previously claimed such attacks targeting the Shi’ite population in the country.
