Officials pay tribute to Montreal firefighter Pierre Lacroix who died during a water rescue operation

Officials in Montreal paid tribute to firefighter Pierre Lacroix who lost his life while rescuing the occupants of a small boat in Saint Lawrence River on Sunday night.

Valérie Plante, the mayor of Montreal, Richard Liebmann, the fire chief of Montreal, and President of Montreal Firefighters Association, Chris Ross, paid tribute to Lacroix earlier today.

The flags were ordered to half-mast in the City of Montreal in honour of Lacroix.

The firefighters managed to rescue the two occupants of the boat but Lacroix went missing while during the rescue operation.

His body was spotted during a large scale search and rescue operation launched by emergency services in Montreal, supported by firefighters from the neighboring cities, including Longueuil and Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu.
