Ontario reports 7,951 COVID-19 cases

Ontario is reporting 7,951 new cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) over a 24 hour period.

Provincial health minister, Christine Elliott, said 3,220 people are currently hospitalized due to COVID-19 in Ontario.

Elliott further added that 54% were admitted to the hospital for COVID-19 and 46% were admitted for other reasons but have tested positive for COVID-19.

Meanwhile, Elliott, said Of the people in ICU with COVID-19, 83% were admitted to the ICU for COVID-19, and 17% were admitted for other reasons but have tested positive for COVID-19.

She also added that the seven-day rolling average of COVID-19 related patients in ICU is 349.

Elliott also added that in Ontario, 28,693,247 vaccine doses have been administered, with over 141,000 doses administered yesterday.

According to Elliott, 91.1% of Ontarians 12+ have one dose and 88.5% have two doses.

The Ontario Health on Monday reported 9,706 new cases of COVID-19 and 12 additional deaths over a 24-hour period.
