Ontario reports over 11,500 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday


Ontario is reporting over 11,500 new cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) over a 24-hour period.

Christine Elliott, the Minister of Health of Ontario, said the health authorities identified 11,582 new cases in the last 24 hours.

Elliott further added that 2,081 people are currently hospital due to COVID-19 in Ontario.

There was a substantial increase in overall hospitalizations in the last 24 hours with an increase of 791 as compared to the previous day.

Meanwhile, Elliott, said 288 individuals are in Intensive Care due to COVID-19, an increase of 22 as compared to Tuesday.

Elliott also added that 202 individuals in ICU are not fully vaccinated or have an unknown vaccination status and 86 are fully vaccinated.

The seven-day rolling average of COVID-19 related patients in ICU is 235, Elliott said.

In Ontario, 27,750,953 vaccine doses have been administered, with over 180,000 doses administered yesterday. 90.9% of Ontarians 12+ have one dose and 88.2% have two doses.
