Ontario SIU lays charges against Halton Regional Police Officer in sexual assault investigation

The Ontario Special Investigation Unit (SIU) announced Thursday it has laid charges against Halton Regional Police Officer in sexual assault investigation.

“The Director of the Special Investigations Unit, Joseph Martino, has reasonable grounds to believe that a Halton Regional Police Service officer committed criminal offences in Burlington,” the Ontario SIU said in a statement.

The statement further addedbthat on October 3, 2021, the SIU received a complaint of sexual assault that had allegedly occurred on or about September 9, 2021. The SIU launched an investigation.

As a result of the SIU investigation, Cst. David Ardrey is charged with one count of sexual assault and one count of breach of trust contrary to section 271 and section 122, respectively, of the Criminal Code.

Cst. Ardrey is required to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at 491 Steeles Ave. E. in Milton on January 12, 2022.

The Ontario SIU also added that as the matter is before the courts, and in consideration of the fair trial interests of the accused, the SIU will not provide further comment on the investigation.
