Police charge man with first-degree murder in death of Nunavut actress Emerald MacDonald


The Royal Canadian Mounted police (RCMP) announced Saturday that a man has been charged with first degree in connection with the murder of actress Emerald MacDonald.

The Nunavut RCMP in a statement said ‘V’ Division Major Crime Unit arrested Scott Hala after conducting an investigation on October 15, 2021.

The statement further added that Hala has been charged with first-degree murder for the death of Emerald MacDonald and attempted murder for Daisy Alonok.

He is currently remanded in custody, the statement said, adding that Hala will appear in court on November 23, 2021.

MacDonald, known for her role in The Grizzlies, was found deceased at a cabin near the hamlet of Kugluktuk, on May 3, 2021.

She was last seen in the hamlet of Kugluktuk on Friday, April 30, 2021, as she was preparing to go to her family’s cabin, buying supplies at the store. She was last seen alive after she traveled to the cabin on Inutkoakakvik Island (Old Man Island) by snowmobile for the weekend.
