Quebec reports over 5,000 new cases and 8 additional deaths due to COVID-19


Quebec is reporting over 5,000 new cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and eight additional deaths due to the virus in last 24 hours.

The Ministry of Health and Social Services of Quebec said the health authorities identified 5,043 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, increasing the total cases to 495,337 since the beginning of pandemic.

The ministry in a statement said eight additional deaths were also reported since Monday. A total of 11,650 individuals have died of the virus in Quebec since the pandemic started.

The statement further added that 415 individuals are hospitalized due to COVID-19 in Quebec, an increase of 18 as compared to Monday.

A total of 59 individuals were admitted to hospital in the last 24 hours, while 41 others were discharged.

Currently, 88 people are in Intensive Care Unit due to COVID-19, the ministry said, adding that 10 people were admitted to ICU and 4 others were discharged in the past 24 hours.

The Ministry of Health and Social Services also added that 76,356 doses of COVID-19 vaccine were administered, including 73,188 in the last 24 hours and 3,168 before December 20, for a total of 14,435,353 doses administered in Quebec.

Outside Quebec, a total of 244,642 doses were administered, for a cumulative total of 14,679,995 doses received by Quebecers.
