The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) announced Sunday that they are investigating a fatal house fire in Pictou County.
“Yesterday, at 1:18 a.m., members of Pictou County District RCMP responded to a fatal house fire on Marine St. in Pictou,” the RCMP said in a statement.
The statement further added that upon arrival at the scene, the residence was engulfed in flames.
Due to the severity and unsafe conditions from the damage, a 74-year-old man from Pictou was later found inside the home the next day and was pronounced deceased at the scene. No one else was inside the residence at the time, the statement added.
The RCMP is investigating the cause of the fire, with assistance from the Nova Scotia Office of the Fire Marshal, the RCMP said, adding that the cause of the fire is not believed to be suspicious at this time.
However the RCMP said the investigation is ongoing.
