Saskatchewan: RCMP identify victim of Black Lake First Nation homicide

The Saskatchewan RCMP on Monday identified the victim of Black Lake First Nation homicide as Arley Cook.

In a statement released earlier today, the Saskatchewan RCMP said the investigators have arrested a man in relation to the homicide of Cook.

“On December 16, 2021, Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes Unit officers arrested a male in relation to this investigation. The victim can now be identified as Arley Cook of Black Lake First Nation,” the statement said.

The statement further added that the death of Cook is considered a homicide and Jerrick Stalthanee of Black Lake First Nation has been charged with one count, second degree murder, Section 235(1), Criminal Code.

His next court date is via video on January 17, 2022 in La Ronge Provincial Court, the Saskatchewan RCMP added.

The officers located the body of Cook at a residence on December 14, 2021, after responding to a report of a suspicious death on Black Lake First Nation.
