Saskatchewan reports 173 COVID-19 cases, 3 additional deaths on Wednesday


The Government of Saskatchewan announced Wednesday that the health authorities have identified 173 cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) over a 24-hour period.

The new cases are located in the Far North West (9), Far North East (10), North West (8), North Central (14), North East (3), Saskatoon (51), Central West (2), Central East (23), Regina (24), South West (4), South Central (2) and South East (17) zones, the Saskatchewan government said in a statement.

The statement further added that 226 individuals are hospitalized due to COVID-19 as of today, including 175 inpatient hospitalizations and 51 ICU hospitalizations.

Of the 226 patients, 154 (68.1%) were not fully vaccinated, the Saskatchewan government said, adding that in addition to Saskatchewan ICUs, there are 25 residents in out-of-province ICUs.

The Saskatchewan government also added that three (3) new deaths were reported today. 862 Saskatchewan residents with COVID-19 have died, with a case fatality rate of 1.1%.

The province has administered 1,673,076 doses of COVID-19 vaccine so far, including 2,328 doses which were administered in the last 24 hours.
