Shooting in southwest Calgary leaves one dead


The Calgary Police confirmed that a man died following a shooting in Sunalta, in the southwest quadrant of the city this afternoon.

“At approximately 3:20 p.m., today, Jan. 6, 2022, we were called to the 1200 block of 17 Street S.W., for reports that a man had been shot,” the Calgary Police said in a statement.

The statement further added that upon arrival, officers located a man suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound in a back alley.

“Despite officers and paramedics performing lifesaving efforts on the victim, he was pronounced dead on scene,” the Calgary Police said, adding that while the investigation continues, 12 Avenue S.W., between 17 Street S.W. and 18 Street S.W., is shut down.

An alley parallel to 12 Avenue S.W., is also shut down.

The Calgary Police also added that anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact police by calling 403-266-1234.
