The Environment Canada announced on Saturday issued special weather statement, warning of heavy rain and possible flooding in B.C. North Coast and Haida Gwaii.
According to a statement released by Environment Canada, the special weather statement is in effect for Haida Gwaii, North Coast coastal sections, and North Coast inland, including Prince Rupert, Kitimat and surrounding communities).
The statement further added that heavy rain associated with an atmospheric river will develop today and could last until Monday in Haida Gwaii, Prince Rupert, Kitimat and surrounding communities.
Rainfall amounts of 100 to 150 mm are expected for Prince Rupert by Monday morning, and rainfall amounts of 60 to 90 mm are forecast for Kitimat and 30 to 60 mm for Haida Gwaii, warning that flooding and landslides could result from the heavy rain.
The Environment Canada also added that snow accumulation, up to 30 cm is expected in North Coast – inland including Stewart, and will be followed by an atmospheric river type flow of warm air and heavy rain.
