The Taliban militants hung the dead bodies of alleged thieves in another gruesome public display of slain criminals in Afghanistan.

The Taliban militants hung the dead bodies of two alleged thieves in western Herat province of Afghanistan.

A Taliban official in Herat confirmed to local media outlets that the two thieves were shot dead by the owner of a house in Obe district.

The official further added that the two individuals were attempting to rob a house when they were shot dead.

Meanwhile, other sources in Herat confirmed that the Taliban militants hung three dead bodies from excavators. Photographs being circulated on social media websites also show three men were hung from excavators.

The Taliban militants had earlier hung the dead bodies of four alleged kidnappers in Herat province.

This comes as the group had earlier vowed to reintroduce strict punishments, including amputations of thieves’ hands in a bid to enforce the rule of law in the country.

Mullah Nooruddin Turabi, a leading Taliban leader, informed regarding the group’s intent to bring back the brutal enforcement of law, in an interview with the Associated Press last month.

Turabi, who will control prisons under the new government led by Taliban, said the group will follow Islam and will implement the rule of law in the light of teachings of Quran.

“Cutting off of hands is very necessary for security,” Turabi said, claiming it was a deterrent to theft and other crime.

Turabi did not elaborate further if the group would implement the punishments in public, something which they performed while ruling Afghanistan from 1996 to 2001.

However, the Saturday’s display of dead bodies in public show that the group would adopt its strict approaches, including public executions.
