Toronto man, 22, arrested in California in connection with fatal January shooting

The Los Angeles Police have arrested a man wanted in Canada in connection with a fatal shooting which took place in Toronto earlier this year.

The Toronto Police in a statement said the Los Angeles Police arrested Hassan Ali, 22, of Toronto in California on Thursday.

The statement further added that the suspect is currently wanted by the Toronto Police Service for first degree murder and three counts of failure to comply with recognizance, in connection with the fatal January shooting.

The fatal shooting took place on Sunday, January 31, 2021, at 8:56 p.m., in the Jane Street and Falstaff Avenue area as a man was attempting to drive his car into the garage of an apartment building at 40 Falstaff Avenue.

He was shot at numerous times and as a result his vehicle rolled and hit the closed underground garage doors, the Toronto Police said, adding that police located an unresponsive man in the driver’s seat who was suffering from gunshot wounds and he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The victim was identified as Hashim Omar Hashi, 20, of Toronto
